speeding fines & loss of licence
Hey, does anyone know how this works?

My flatmate recently got done doing 140km in a 100 or 110 zone. Before that, she had all the points on her licence.

Will she lose her licence now? Or just cop a hefty fine and lose a few points.

Cheers!

I dont know what state you are in.

In Victoria now, doing 25km+ over the limit (what she was doing) results in a 1 month loss of licence and from memory, a $420 fine.

If its 40km over and another state, it could be more - id be contacting the relevant roads authority in your state.

Traffic laws SUCK MAJOR ARSE IN THIS FUCKING COUNTRY. Grrr.

In NSW if you're doing more than 30km/h over its an automatic 3 month suspension (minimum) and a $549 fine and 4 points off

In NSW the only time it matters if you were picked up by a fixed camera is if you're doing 45 km/h more. Then you dont have the option of just paying the fine -- there is a mandatory court appearance.

see the link above ^^

mate got done some 140km/h down the main beach road in surfers in a 70 zone, he lost 6points.

i think i got taken by a speed camera last week, it was a 60zone and there was a camera van and a police motorcycle on the side of the road, my sub-mental state in my brain made me brake but my alert-side just thought "ou what a nice van and motorcycle, theres something wrong with this picture... hopefully didnt get a fine, i did slow down to about 50km sorta before the van but not sure... just gotta wait

Mellow D, you're off the road for 1 month. I've been off the road for 2.5 years and have got another 5 years to go.

Bloody red-neck cops. They would pull me over all the time because they were obviously jealous of my car or me. I took them to court every time and the bastards would lie in court about everything. The reason I've got another 5 years because in NSW there is a habitual offender law that if you get charged for 3 offences in the space of 5 years, you automatically cop another 5 years which you can't contest.

Needless to say, I sold my pride and joy which I worked damned hard for years. I'll be 32 before I can drive again.

Lost 6 points during double demerits last year coming back from a club at 5 in the morning with 2 beautiful ladies distracting me in the car.. Wasn't happy, but I got hella mad sympathy from them both! Only had 5 points left so I ended up having to go on probation for a year with 2 points.. I've already lost 1 point and still have until July before I get the license back..

But if i'm careful I'll get all my 12 points back again! (from what i've been told) Yay!!!!

All you people who get busted doing 30-40k over the limit, STOP WHINGEING ABOUT IT. You're way over the limit and being reckless, and if you get caught you've only got yourselves to blame. Admittedly its fun, I was caught at 145kmph in a 100k zone a few years back, $520 fine and lost 50 points (this was in NZ where you get 100 points on your licence) but I knew I was breaking the law and didn't bitch when I was caught.

SpaceMonkey, I'm not having a whinge. I won't bore you with details but on 2 occassions I asked to see the radar reading. It wasn't forthcoming and for good measure they then decided to rough me up one time, the other I was taken away in a paddy wagon. As I said, when I took them to court over it, naturally they said I was resisting arrest and beat the charges up even further. If wasn't for my legal team, I'd be in jail having my cherry popped.

Not until they pay the fine. You don't lose the points until you pay (I'm almost 100% sure abour this), so do what I do and wait for the 3rd (I think) notice. That's if it's a speed camera. I've never actually been pulled over.

if it was her first offence she mite get off with a warning but she will have to write in to the infringement beuru there address is on the ticket she would have but if she loses it for 3mths u can choose to sit out from driving for those 3mths or go on a good behaviour thingy for 12mths but your still allowed to drive

My brother claimed he went over 200km/h on a main road in Wollongong where the speed limit is either 90km/h or 100km/h, prior to selling a Holdon Commodore V8 ute he had. Luckily, noone saw him (it was late at night), nor did he total it in a telegraph pole, which was the fate of the Torana SLR2000 (??) V8 he had shortly before that car.

I don't think I've even driven on a freeway since I got off my Ps a couple of years ago (as I don't drive).

Chip on my shoulder, maybe now Tristan. But at the time it was on the red-neck fucker straight out of the Academy who bloody well had it. The judge would rather believe 2 cops who had conflicting statements, one of whom didn't bother to turn up to court to be cross examined, than a guy in his twenties who's surname isn't Jones.

Fair enough, but you have a dispute with the cops. Some people seem to be moaning about getting caught and losing their licences even though they have no dispute about the speed they were doing. That's just dumb.

PERFECT TIMING!!!!

What do i get in the mail today? $200 Fine!!!

15k/h and over but under 25k/h the speed limit.

3 points.

Actually, the points don't bother me, it's the money. Why not the points?

**drum roll**

There is a way to pay your fines WITHOUT loosing your points.

The tip was given to me by a senior paux lease officer a few years back during my waitering days @ Cafe Trevi.

I had not tried this until recently and you now what, IT WORKS!! And if your thinking it might be illegal, it isn't.

Don't know if it's worth telling you guys, it's priceless information.

First part yes, second part no. I've never heard of them sending change. Something happens after the first part which then benefits us. It all happens in the electronic system, all automated.

Not sure. But if he held a Victorian licence and commited a driving offence in any other state he would still loose points. (not sure if you have a point system in NSW).

I am looking forward to getting my licence back next month. (after 2 n' 1/2 years) I'm excited.

in vic if u get done 25km over, but under 35 you loose your licence for 1 month, 35 km over, but under 45 i think is 3 months, if you over 45 i think it might even be 12 months, and of course they have very big fines attached as well!!!!

good. He wasn't doing ten over mate, 147kms crashing into an innocent oncoming car means instant death for any passengers. Keep the politics out of it. He deserves to be fined and suspended.

Yep, they now have nation wide rather than state based regulation.

It used to be managed separately in each state, ie. you got a fine in NSW and you live in VIC, you wouldn't get points taken off, you'd only have to pay the fine. Now, it doesn't matter where you commit the offence, you still lose the points and get the license penalties.

It's also consistent across different license types now (eg. car, motorbike, HGV). Unlike before, you can't lose points off your car license and keep your motorbike or truck license.
