Orient Hotel
The prog trance night seems like a good idea! Where is the Orient Hotel? (Sorry, pretty new to the Brisbane dance scene). I have been to the Moon Bar a couple of times, and it's not all bad. I went to some Ignition event, but it was a little bit too rave for me atm. Please tell me of places playing prog house and trance without all the hard NRG stuff.

If you are still awake tomorrow morning @ 3am, like progressive house, trance and breaks, then tune in Oslo Nights at Digitally Imported (www.di.fm). http://www.di.fm/calendar/event.php?event=16.

ASOT and G&D
ASOT with G&D was quite good. Funny mash up from Marcus Schulz of Clear Blue and Beautiful things. But a bit too much of Beautiful Things in that set, although I never get that tune off my head. James Holden on Triple J wasn't all that bad either.

Today's Earcandy:
Özgür Can - On A White Day
Locodice - City Lights
Indigo Child - Underwater
Against The Grain - Further (Lemon8 Remix)
Rouzbeh Delavari - Inner Structure (Deep In The Loop Mix / Petter Mix)

I've got nearly every Gabriel & Dresden release and remix, right down to their ils remix, jewel, new order, wow, and medicine8, but I wouldn't really class any one of them as trance... it's progressive house, am I alone on this one or am i just a category geek...

I suppose the only thing that comes close to trance is the der dritte raum - hale bop remix they did with Nick Warren...

Whatever it is I'd have to agree with DJ PhaZe1, their stuff is amazing...

Ok. I am classified as a trance dj , and i play a heap of there records in my sets and i have never been told by anyone that the record isn't trance (not that it wld matter as i enjoy the stuff to damn much to not play it hehe), but we can all have differeing opinions. Also have you ever heard 3 drives - Carrera 2 (G&D turbo mix] (TRANCE music at its finest) or there mix of Four String -into the night as well as the stuff they did for tiesto and oakey, grayarea, dave gahan, annie lennox and the above mentioned rmx and all there others that all fit perfectly into my 'trance ' sets. i agree that lament is on the deeper tip, but there other productions as motorcycle, andain and attention defecit are all wonderful pieces of trance music

Also, listen to interviews with these guys and you here comments like ' that was a trance melody if ever i heard one so we decided to do a bootleg to play in our sets' which sounds to me like they know and enjoy making 'trance' music.

but ferg described it the best 'trance music with a more house orientated bassline' beautiful stuff

Progressive, Breaks, Trance....

Breaks is like the beautiful succulent steak between to old stale wet soggy bun of prog and trance. You don't want to wreck the flavour of the steak now do you?

ps never heard of any of those tracks as being breaks before, but that might be my limited knowledge of the genre

Yeah I'll pay that! I've heard all them...

I'd have to say that if you played the above tracks and stuff similar in a trance set, then that would be one trance set that I'd like... I'm not really into the big synth riff stuff... but if you play G & D I'd enjoy it! How much do you pitch their stuff up tho?

What did you think of their beachball remix??

...and does anyone have a copy of the G & D remix of Way Out West's Mindcircus they want to sell?

How good is the max graham remix of subsky - strawberry fields... mmm go maxie

Nope haven't heard that Dave London remix (will check it out) - have heard heaps of his other bootys & collaborations with Filthy Rich.

As for progressive breaks - yeah I totally agree with those artists being "described" as progressive - but when you look at the track list above I don't think they fit into that categorisation as being "progressive - comma - breaks". I was suspicious on this track '14_Jono Fernandez & Luke Chable - Come To Me' but I haven't heard it an cant comment.

Dude I checked it out and I have to say its a pretty shit. But your right there is a trance line in it - but it's pretty lame milhouse...

If you like the trippin vocal that's over the top I would recomend checking out..

Koma & Bones - Donky Spanna (Rennie Pilgrems Berlin Mix)

The track off his Perfecto Breaks CD compilation (not the Vinyl) has that accapella over it - it's very nice!

(was it MJ Cole that did that original Tripping vocal?)

Get your hand off it sicka!

Breaks is like the potato salad you left at the back of the fridge. It was tasty in it's day but now it's just on the nose.

Prog is like the snags you've had in your freezer for years. You'd almost totally forgotten it existed, now it's defrosted, cooked and part of a tasty tribal/techno/house soup.

Nice Analogy Custaro! I love it! And I think your probably right - I was just being my cheeky self.

Breaks is like a 4&20 Meatpie. Sometimes you get a nice meat bit with tomato & gravey sauce - but most of the time the factory keep selling pies made of gristle.

(or maybe the factory is bedroom producers in cubase, logic & reason)

Speaking of meat pie I might go and buy one now from the servo on my lunch break.... mmmm gristle!

Dude I checked it out and I have to say its a pretty shit. But your right there is a trance line in it - but it's pretty lame milhouse...

Yeah... I was just jokin' around about the different genres, and how they cross over... like if you have prog + trance buns and succulent steak breaks then what does that make progressive breaks or trance breaks??? (and yeah the dave london remix of trippin' certainly is "different") For breaks check out

Vector 13 - Isis
Blackwatch - Words Unspoken (Chable Remix)
Apahsia - Acapulco (Sean Cusack Remix)

Prog is like the snags you've had in your freezer for years. You'd almost totally forgotten it existed, now it's defrosted, cooked and part of a tasty tribal/techno/house soup.

I cooked up some 2 year old tasty snags the other day:

Blair Bitch - Blair Bitch (Solid Sessions Remix)
BT - Flaming June
Loudeast - Lights Off
Paul Van Dyk - Avenue

don't you love re-organizing your records... 8-)

G & D rock neways... but let's just leave people with a quote from PVD... just to keep ya'll think

"Ninety per cent of all trance records are total bullshit. Like ATB's '9PM[Till I Come]'. That reminds me of women with pigtails serving tankards of beer!"

This is shit
Ok guys, if you want to know what shit music is, have a look at this:

http://www.djshop.de/shop/mitte.php?...1990f48d0c6840

Especially look out for the extended instrumental mix! But the funniest thing is that the record store selling this piece of crap use this description: "already causing mayhem on the dancefloor - massive tune". Well, I just hope that I've not offended anyones taste :offchops:

I'd have to say that if you played the above tracks and stuff similar in a trance set, then that would be one trance set that I'd like... I'm not really into the big synth riff stuff... but if you play G & D I'd enjoy it! How much do you pitch their stuff up tho?

What did you think of their beachball remix??

...and does anyone have a copy of the G & D remix of Way Out West's Mindcircus they want to sell?

How good is the max graham remix of subsky - strawberry fields... mmm go maxie

Well i basically play a blend of melodic tunes in my 'trance' sets. I am not really into all the big uplifting synth riff atm so i am just going for a more subtle melodic approach. I generally play at about 135 bpm though, but as G & D say themselves they have produced tunes from as low as 126 all the way up to 140 so each tune is different. I mean how quick is there remix of grayarea - one for the road. i generally play that one at about -4

As to beachball, wikked tune (be better with a G & D instumental imo though ), i actually finished my set at Time Tunnel with that tune as it was a perfect track to finish the night in the trance room.

Also, i have also had that promo of strawberry fields for a while now and farkin love it. after the breakdown is just gold

I like you taste in tunes andi red. do u mix out up here? if so where and when as i wld be keen to come and listen.
wikked

"In the Sauna"

the thing i luv about G&D is that their own sets incorporate alot of different stuff.. hence why their productions show a lot of diversity..

their productions can be used in almost any set.. check out my tracklist for my globaldjbroadcast, josh gabriel remix of summer calling to start off, then g&d remix of carrera 2 a cpl of tunes after.. i mix their stuff up in my own style of melodic trance, which included uplifting synths

ppl shouldnt confine themselves to too much otherwise where's the room for experimentation

u guyz make sure u check out Elemance_Presents on friday arvo this week as phaze1 is sure to mix up a nice blend of trance for ya pants 8-)

DJ PhaZe1:

I'm playing at Sundex on the 26th but it's only a 1/2 hour set for a it of fun in the open dex room...
Also playing here at the Empire on the 30th... Come + say g'day! and am pushing for more gigs on the Gold Coast at the moment...
GLOBAL>

But I'm really keen to hook up with other people putting on nights... It would be great to see a night in Brissy that started with - Downtemp Breaks + Beats > House > Tech-House > Progressive Breaks > Progressive House > Trance > Deep House -
Get a variety of Dj's in there and provide something that everyone can get into... all we need is a venue, a name, advertising, and people, I don't think it would be too hard to find the dj's 8-) .

Anyone that thinks this is a good idea and would be interested in putting something like this on can reach me at: fuketyfuk@hotmail.com Maybe look at a December Party...

It's always more fun to play the tunes than talk about them even though the latter is good value...
