Here's a photo of the studio from a while back.

We'd just finished recording the backing tracks for "By the rivers of Babylon".

here is a photo showing abit more detail. was pretty easy, prob cost me $120 all up and about 2 weeks work, that is like a few hours 2hours a day. Most of that was waiting for the estapol to dry and recoat.

Im pretty sure the vestax decks are the biggest of tech/numark/vestax so i designed it to fit them in either battle or standard position, and also based it on a pioneer DJM600 mixer to go in the middle. Would all fit quite nicely. Obviously with the smaller mixer there is abit of room to move around everything which is good for cleaning fluids and brushs etc. Chucked the shelve in as well to house a few tunes, would prob pack close to 75 in there but would be very tight and hard to flick thru.

Pm me if you want exact dimensions, obviously i built it to fit perfectly in my room thou, so may not suit everywhere. Also its pretty low, long hours over it would prob lead to a sore back, but then again i like been able to look directly down over the mixer and such. now just gotta get out in the shed and finish the cover for it.

ueh its so good when you buy one thing at a time and know it inside out, rather than have 50 things that you can do one thing on

So negative.

If you had more gear, you would sit in front of it as much as you could.

The reason why people have "too much gear" is simple - they need the variation in sounds! And something to wank about no doubt

Here's my very minimal but well chosen gear list:

Roland XP-50 Workstation
Yamaha A3000 V2 Sampler
Novation Nova
Roland Meinl Bongos

Behringer 1602a mixer
Behringer Composer Pro compressor
Mackie HR824 monitor speakers

Apple G4 DP-500MHZ running Mac OS X 10.2.8
Marantz CDR630 stand-alone CD recorder (broken)

Dick Smith OFC audio cables + Jaycar Best Quality connectors

Not much gear really.
Just the essentials to make the type of music I want to make.
Only thing I'm missing is a sexy vocalist. :p
Too lazy these days to switch anything on though.

nice idea. i will borrow a digi cam once ive cleaned up a little. im kinda embarassed at the mess right now. i bought some new gear and traded some older stuff for some stuff like an S3000xl and a juno etc and only the sampler is rackable, so its messing up all the ergonimics! ive got things on milkcrates right now for gods-sake! gotta buy an a-frame.

too much gear is never a curse. the aesthetics and inspirations of using particular gear are part of the creative process. i think hording is fine as long as you master each piece. im not down with staring at softsynths and computer screens all the time, hence the mpc and mirage samplers etc.

DJ LOGIK... whose setup IS that? for so much gear it doesnt appear to have any sound treatment in the room?

The room itself is hexagonally shaped, thus no parallel surfaces (well, not like a square room)

And the positioning of the gear would be interesting on the sound.

4. The location of your spare key if not under the door mat/pot plant/electrical cupboard.

Also, a Kennards Truck hire closeby would be handy

hehehe
Thanks Xelpmok..

Mungo.. Ok, well, maybe not meager... how about "basic"? I guess when I said meager, I was comparing my stuff to those of you that are sitting around with Virus C's and Ions and Nord Lead 3's and Andromedas and all those rediculously expensive synths that I'd spend far too much time tinkering with and far too little time actually producing with, if I could ever afford 'em!

Seriously tho, I think I've managed to cut my gear-whore stage nice and short.. I've got what I need to do what I want... so no more buying gear for me.. I hope...(ok ok ok so i still want a Novation BassStation, but like, I dont NEED it)

The cs6x was my first synth, I'll never ever ever ever let it go. It may only be a rompler, but it sure is a wonderful sounding piece of gear. Great filters on that puppy. The JP-8080 is the real workhorse tho.. man can that thing scream out some leads.
