The summer season in Ibiza operates from the beginning of June through to the end of September. Be warned, though, if you’re intending to embrace the closing parties, you may need to sacrifice your tan. The season has tipped over to autumn come September, which means rainfall. There are solariums on the island, but it’s pretty sad to have to resort to using one! After all, you can’t really bask in the sun on a picturesque beach, sharing a pitcher of sangria, perving at barely clothed Europeans and listening to top tunes from a booth.

In 2007 it would be best to hold off your arrival until after July 8. Local police and Guardia Civil have closed down Bora Bora and Amnesia until this date, acting on drug-related investigations that have taken place over the past two years. These venues are incomparable – a great shame for those who have already booked their holidays. Radio 1’s Ibiza weekend is definitely worth experiencing, and it’s scheduled to take place Friday August 12 to Sunday August 14 this year. A massive stage is set up on the beach where the world’s hottest DJs grace the decks over 23 hours. You can soak up the rays while feasting your ears on a sampler of sounds, which may help you decide on where to spend (up to) AU $140 on entry fees for superclubs. Many beach affairs are BYO (no glass), and entry is free! Massive paper cups were provided at the gate to pour your bevos into so you could take them through. This year marks a decade of Radio 1 presenting live broadcasts from the White Isle, and you can bet the celebrations will reflect this. On Saturday August 13 they are hosting a 12 hour sonic marathon from Space; 7pm to 7am. This extravaganza boasts a line-up that could launch you into outer space without a shuttle; Judge Jules, Erick Morillo, Pete Tong, Laurent Garnier, Deep Dish, Fergie, Nic Fanciulli… do you need anymore convincing?

Extending your break to take in another overseas adventure would break up the long haul flight. Head to England first and factor in Glastonbury (June 22, 23 and 24), or if you’re a complete nut-job head to Pamplona, Spain, for the Running of the Bulls (July 6 – 14).
