Ibiza is one of the four Balearic Islands just off the east coast of Spain, situated in the Mediterranean Sea. The other three to make up the archipelago are Majorca, Menorca, and Ibiza’s next-door neighbour, Formentera. The British descend upon Ibiza in droves, which means package deals from the UK are competitive by demand. Fly to the UK first and book your Ibiza sojourn from there, unless you have a Pommie mate to organise it for you.

Booking international flights from Australia at least a month in advance is the cheapest way to go. A return flight to London in peak season (June to September) will set you back approx $2500 (taxes included). THIS LINK will give you an idea of how affordable it is for the Brits to ‘ave it large in Ibiza. For a holiday from August 10 to 17, I found a deal in San Antonio (flight, accommodation and transfers included) for $605 per person, and that’s taking in the Radio 1 weekend! Don’t be surprised if the price suddenly escalates once you press the ‘book’ button, it will still translate to amazing value.

Avoid thinking you’ll save extra pennies by travelling from a more obscure UK airport like Luton or Stansted. Often budget holidays have you leaving at the crack of dawn, and these airports can be difficult to get to from London when public transport hasn’t kicked in for the day. It’s cheaper to fly from Gatwick than Heathrow, and the Gatwick Express departs every 15 minutes from London’s Victoria Station. The journey takes half an hour, but make sure you take note of which terminal your flight leaves from. These are actually separate stations and you’ll have to wait for another train if you misjudge it. The Gatwick Express (economy class) costs $33.50 one-way or $60.25 return. I recommend the one-way option as you won’t need the stress of searching through your luggage for a small piece of paper at the other end of your trip!

Ibiza is a quick 2-hour flight from London, Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, Milan and Zurich. This explains the tendency for clubs to be filled with stylish, multilingual revelers. If you find yourself in mainland Spain and wish to head over to experience the madness, super-fast ferries operate out of Denia and Alicante. These also take just 2 hours.
