Don’t be too hard on yourself if you don’t manage to tick off all of these activities, the distractions of the world’s best nightclubs tend to get in the way. It sounds good in theory though!
Formentera
A mere 19km long, this island is 6km south of Ibiza. A 30 minute ferry ride will get you there, and with up to 33 scheduled crossings daily it shouldn’t be too hard to scramble onto one. Unspoilt by tourism, Formentera is the polar opposite of Ibiza. Fantastic snorkelling can be experienced within the cove of Cala Saona, and nude sunbathing is allowed on most beaches. Playa de Migjorn is 5km long – longer than any beach you’ll find in Ibiza. The Ibiza to Formentera ferry roundtrip price is 30E (approx $48).
Can Marca Caves, San Miguel
Over 100,000 years old, this cave was used by smugglers to hide goods. The mouth of the cave is 12-14 metres above sea level and smugglers would hoist their booty to an opening 8-10 metres from the sea. Perhaps diving underneath this cave may recover some of their spoils? Waterfalls and ancient geological forms have been reproduced artificially, to demonstrate how they would have appeared way back when, and there’s a sound and light show that’s bound to be different from what you’ve experienced in the clubs. In the cave’s deepest recesses, dripping still forms stalactites. Entrance will set you back less than the price of a beer in most venues. Adults 5.50E (approx $9).
Hippy Market
This famous market started in the 1950s. It’s located between Santa Eulalia and Es Cana and opens every Wednesday from 10am-7pm. There’s an endless variety of stalls selling assorted Ibicencan craftwork, leatherwear and glassware, interspersed with tacky tourist souvenirs. The bustling vibe is also a haven for musicians (more of the bongo-playing variety than DJs) and buskers.
Aquamar
Located next to Space in Playa D’en Bossa, this water park features a good variety of water-slides and may just provide a much-needed boost for your serotonin levels. Adults 16E (approx $25).
Dalt Vila (High Town)
A day spent in Ibiza Town is a must. Don a comfortable pair of shoes, explore the cobbled streets, and soak up some history. You’ll feel like you’re in a time warp, but try to resist the urge to do that stupid dance from ‘Rocky Horror’. Wander across the drawbridge and explore this medieval town’s art galleries on your way up to the cathedral. Be sure to take your camera as the view from the battlements is spectacular. At least this way you’ll have some parent-friendly shots on your camera when you get back home.
Ibiza Town
If you desperately need a new outfit or you’ve ruined your trainers at a foam party, there are some magnificent (albeit expensive!) shops in Ibiza Town. If it’s threads other than t-shirts with club names emblazoned across the chest, head straight here.
Charter A Speed Boat
Wanna do what Diddy does? You can charter a boat complete with skipper and even a dive master if you fancy some scuba action. Work on your tan while surrounded by water, then dock at secluded spots as you see fit. You probably need to have a football team sized group to be able to afford it, but it costs nothing to dream.
