A 16-year-old from the Gold Coast was arrested on Monday and charged with offensive behaviour for wearing Cradle Of Filth’s infamous ‘Jesus is a Cunt’ t-shirt. Yes, the one with the nun masturbating on it.
According to goldcoast.com.au, the teenager was walking down Hollywell Road in Biggera Waters wearing the t-shirt, when a police officer spotted him. He was charged under the Summary Offences Act 2005 for public nuisance. Apparently police then “conducted inquiries” at Australia Fair, where the guy bought the t-shirt, to find if any more were available. Presumably not to give as presents.
“If a person was wearing the shirt in a church or a religious rally where it was specifically intended to offend or cause disruption, then perhaps the prosecution might stand a chance,” Gold Coast lawyer Bill Potts told the media outlet. “However, to criminalise juvenile or boorish messages is to bring the law into disrepute. The police are acting like the thought police and censors.”
Need to brush up on your Cradle Of Filth?

I'm all for tongue and cheek humour but i fail to see anything even remotely related in the wording on the tshirt. Why is it ok to be offensive to those who believe in Christ but not so for any other religious or social group.

Tennessee, How can you justify that most people find it acceptable to offend Christians, but not other religious or social groups? This sort of martyring and/or political correct bullshit isn't going to win any support. Cast your mind back a few years. Remember when a certain overseas newspaper published certain pictures of a certain, non-Christian, religious idol? Remember the ensuing debate of free-speech? The right to "offend." If, as I assume, you're comment was censored, it would have been done so not because your argument hit a nerve, but because it would have been terribly flawed.

you raise a fair point eat_chips, i was a bit hasty in posting that comment which in fact was written after the second of my comments as they appear on this page and was the comment i was refering to. As for the actual meat of the message i.e. the offence directed at christians, tell me which religious group cops more flack than any other across the board, from tv to radio to everyday conversation. the incident you refer to was the only one of its kind where another religion was targeted and you forget what kind of uproar was reciprocated from that particular group, from the entire boycott of even day to day food products to an absoulte boycott of tourism to that nation in question. do you ever hear of the christian community causing such an uproar when we cop even more flack? the answer as you will have to agree is no. free speach yes but why go to the extent of labeling a figure who did nothing wrong a c

I went through the vatican with my "Jesus is a cunt" tshirt which has an inverted crucifix and a woman dripping menstrual bloody on it. i then found out the 2 months later Dani Filth was arrested for having a lanyard with the same picture on it when they went to the vatican after a show they did.
