Vatican newspaper the Osservatore Romano denied persistent rumours that the Pope wears red Prada shoes, over a year after the usually infallible tastemaker was branded ‘accessoriser of the year’ by Esquire magazine. The newspapers pointed out that the Pope is well known for wearing simply cut black sweaters and said the shoes were created by Rome cobbler Adriano Stefanelli. “The banality of our times does not even recognise that the colour red has a clear sacrificial significance,” the paper sniffed, “The Pope does not wear Prada, but Christ. His worries are not about accessories, but the essential.”
In more religion related fashion news, Muslim authorities in Malaysian city Kota Baru introduced a decree banning Muslim women from wearing make-up in public this week, to tackle sex crimes and protect the ‘morals and dignity of the women’. “It states that Muslim women are forbidden to wear thick make-up, like bright colored lipstick and high-heeled shoes that gave a tapping sound,” Malaysian press agency Bernama revealed, “For those who insist on wearing high heel shoes, they can do so but with rubber heels,” the news group added. Meanwhile in America, fallen evangelical guru Ted Haggard revealed more details of the rent boy/ crystal meth scandal that scuppered his career in 2006, in an email he sent to ‘close family friend Kurt Serpe’ (Boston Edge/ News Channel 13). Serpe described the Pastor as a heterosexual ‘sexoholic’, despite the contents of the email, in which Haggard wrote candidly about meeting male prostitute Mike Jones after asking for a ‘masseur’ at a Marriot Hotel.
“It was during the massage that it started to become sensual, and that led to him masturbating me,” the former New Life boss revealed. “During the conversation with Mike during and after the time he masturbated me, he told me about some drugs that he could get for me that would enhance my masturbation experience,” he continued, “I actually used them three times, throwing them away in shame before use two times. It is for these offenses that I confessed being immoral and deceitful,” he confessed.
The Pastor (once described by Time Magazine as ‘one of the top 25 most influential evangelicals in America’) has yet to be welcomed back into New Life’s fold, despite founding the church.
