There have been titters of excitement over the last 24 hours at news that Radiohead provided the score for Choke, a movie based on a book of the same name by literary enfant terrible Chuck Palahniuk. Sadly, though, it’s only a little bit true.
The band has contributed In Rainbows cut Reckoner for the film’s closing credits, but the score is in fact composed by Nathan Larson of US alt-rockers Shudder To Think. It was Palahniuk himself who made the mistake of crediting Radiohead for the score during an interview. Could it have been an almighty publicity stunt? If so, mission accomplished.
Despite the relative disappointment for those hoping to get a new release from Thom Yorke and co., the Choke soundtrack is still an intriguing prospect, with songs from Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, The Fiery Furnaces, Ben Kweller and more. Choke, which stars Sam Rockwell and Anjelica Huston, is due out in Australia 30 October 2008.
