MI5 look to recruit gay spies

British secret service organisation MI5 have launched a recruitment drive to actively hire gay people, in collaboration with gay rights lobbying group Stonewall.

Stonewall chief Ben Summerskill suggested gays will turn out to be higher calibre agents than heterosexuals for MI5, which monitors domestic threats to Britain’s national security. “If you have grown up as part of a minority community, you’re probably more used to fitting in and being inconspicuous,” Summerskill told America’s Time magazine. “You have a distinct skill set that is of use.”

Skills MI5 admit they need include lying, cheating and deceiving, according to the organisation’s website mi5.gov.uk, on a page titled ‘how do spies operate?’ “Agents operate by exploiting trusted relationships and positions to obtain sensitive information,” MI5 explain. “The methods used by intelligence officers vary widely, and are often limited only by their ingenuity.”
