Editorial: where will you spend your summer?

It’s par for the course around this time of year that exciting summer tour and festival announcements get tongues wagging. That being said, here at inthemix we can’t remember when there’s been quite so much quality AND quantity on the horizon. It’s been a little overwhelming trying to keep up with it all, and even more worrying is the state we’ll be in after summer is done with us for another year!

There’s a raft of exciting new events popping up, like Sensation NYE, Global Gathering and the national Stereosonic tour, as well as artists heading to Australia for the first time ever, namely Eric Prydz, Mark Ronson, The Gorillaz, Simian Mobile Disco and Santogold for starters. Of course there’s also the welcome return of many old favourites, including Underworld, Digitalism, Sasha, Kraftwerk, Boys Noize, Paul van Dyk, Booka Shade and Carl Cox, as well as all the established festivals we know and love. And that’s just the tip of a very large iceberg, because there’s stacks more still to be announced. Big Day Out, Future Music Festival, Good Vibrations, V Festival… you get the drift.

Obviously it’s not possible to do it all, as much as we’d like to. Whether it’s financial restrictions that kybosh your plans, no love getting time off from work, family or study commitments, or just the downright physical inability to party every weekend for 3+ months straight, you’re going to have to make some hard decisions about where you spend your time.

What’s on your list of mandatories this summer? Let us know your thoughts here!

Global Gathering and Summadayze for sure! Gutted that Stereosonic is on the same weekend as Earthcore...I wanted to do both! Plus there's Godskitchen, Parklife, Sensation White....and that's just the beginning!

Out of all the parties that have been on in Melbourne this year, I would have to say that Pharmacy's Hells Bells has the BEST line up I have seen yet- DJ Isaac, Scot Project, Yoji... wow! I will also definately be attending Godskitchen, Global Gathering and maybe Summadayze. Not Sensation though, which is just a big dissapointment, I mean their headline act is Fredde Le Grand and that's just poor form. They haven't even announced any other acts yet and people are buying tickets.... huh? How can you buy a ticket to a show and you don't know who's playing yet? Anyway the party season that is going hit Melbourne this summer will be epic- never has there been so many events and international events because Melbourne has finally been recognized around the world as a dance music capital.

it's difficult! The for sures are: Global Gathering, Stereosonic. Maybes: Summadayze. Miss: Sensation (not appealing with fedde le grande being the "headliner", for the time being). Let's not forget Future music in march. Summer is looking sexy!
