Prosecutors have accused a gang of Goths in Russia of murdering, cooking and eating four fellow teenagers as part of a gruesome Satanic ritual which involved stabbing each victim 666 times. Police discovered body parts of Anya Gorokhova, Olga Pukhova, Varya Kuzmina and Andrei Sorokin earlier this month and arrested former church choir boy turned Goth gang leader Nikolai Ogolobyak.
One victim’s father told Russian media he’d been comfortable about his son hanging out with the group, who he’d assumed had been harmless – if morbid – regular teenagers. “My son said he had Goths and Satanists among his friends. I wasn’t scared. I thought, ‘Well, let him spend his time sitting around a cemetery — there’s not much harm in that, is there?’”
Meanwhile, one of the accused killers revealed they had been motivated by cash. “I tried to turn to God, but it didn’t bring me any money,” he explained. “I prayed to Satan, and things improved,” he added (the Sun). The horrific murders happened just as the Sunday Times branded Goth their next ‘shock horror’ big thing in a piece which urged readers to ‘move over to the dark side on this season’s take on gothic chic’. “Don’t let it get too girlie,” the Times added (in a ‘How to dress Goth’ feature). “Goth is all about contrast.”
In more sinister Russian news, the Sunday People published a report claiming that at least 700 highly trained, deep undercover Russian spies are currently active in the UK, based on an interview with one Konstantin Preobrazhensky, the former head of KGB operations in China. “They are operating in all your major cities,” Mr Preobrazhensky told the People. “They generally arrive in pairs posing as married couples because that way they raise less of a threat and are welcomed into society far more quickly,” he said.
Mr Preobrazhensky failed to mention whether any of the spies might be disguised as Goths.
