Now firmly in the top-tier of stadium crowd-pullers, Coldplay has let slip that it’ll return to Australia next year. Speaking with Sydney radio station Nova over the weekend, frontman Chris Martin promised the band will “definitely” be here in February or March.
Since the release of its grandiose fourth album Viva La Vida or Death And All His Friends, Coldplay has donned its French Romantic uniforms for a circuit of the US (interestingly, supported by Santogold) and a headline slot at Japan’s Summer Sonic Festival.
In December, they’ll play three mammoth shows at London’s O2 Arena, solidifying their big league status at home. Coldplay sold out multiple nights when they last visited our shores in 2006 to spruik album number three X&Y, so expect the arenas to be upsized again on this visit.
