Coldplay announce 2009 tour

Giving stiff competition to Kings Of Leon in the stadium-filling stakes, Coldplay is returning here in February for a run of super-sized shows.

The mooted “biggest band in the world right now” graduated to arena status with the Brian Eno-produced Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends, but their repertoire of heartstring-tuggers runs deep.

On each visit to Australia, Coldplay has been met with adoration en masse. Wisely, for their 2009 tour they’ve opted for back to back nights in Melbourne, Brisbane and Sydney. Fans in Adelaide, though, have once again gone wanting. Chris Martin: expect some hate mail.

Coldplay play the following shows in early 2009. Tickets on sale Thursday 4 December.
