Christmas With The Simpsons is the second instalment of season related releases from Fox. The Halloween special was a nice mix of the more ‘scary’ episodes from over the seasons. Christmas With The Simpsons follows the tradition by packing an enjoyable range of festive episodes into a heart-warming (but still really funny) DVD. It comes out just in time for Christmas, which would make a cool gift for any devoted Simpsons fan. It contains 5 episodes from various Simpsons years.

Mr. Plow – One of the earlier Simpsons but one of the most classic. It follows Homer as he goes to a motor show and decides to buy a rather large and expensive snow plow. Being the conservative wife, Marge disapproves of the vehicle but homer is determined to make it work and pays off the plow by starting a driveway plowing business. Things are going well until Barney takes homers lead and also starts up a rival company with an even bigger and better snow plow. The competition leaves homer in debt and frustration. As the story goes on Homer and Barney have to try and work out their differences if they want to make money in the business.

Miracle On Evergreen Terrace – A true Christmas episode! Bart goes behind the family rules and wakes up early to open his presents on Christmas morning. After getting his favourite toy he starts playing with it and the electronics cause havoc and burn down the plastics Christmas tree. He makes up a lie to cover his act and the residents of Springfield feel pity for the Simpsons and all chip in some money so they can have a decent Christmas day. All goes wrong as Bart’s guilt builds up and he tells the truth. A feel good episode that’s perfect for the whole family.

Grift of the Magi – While trying on Marge’s clothes with Milhouse as a dare, Bart falls and breaks his butt. He ends up in a wheel chair while his bone is healing and discovers that he cant get into the school because of its lack of disable facilities. Principle Skinner finds himself in trouble as all schools require these facilities. Help is given by the local Mafia who construct a ridiculous maze of ramps all over the school. Problems just get bigger and bigger from here. Not the most Christmas related episode.

Simpsons Roasting On an Open Fire – After Bart gets a tattoo and Mr. Burns declines the Christmas bonus for Homer, all the family savings for the festive season are spent getting the tattoo removed. An earlier episode and probably not on the humour level of the rest of the DVD but still enjoyable. Santa’s little helper is also introduced in this episode. I believe it’s the first Christmas with the Simpsons episode to air.

She Of little Faith – Homer and Bart (with the help of the nerds) build a rocket to send a hamster into space. After launch, the hamster ejects as he gets frightened. The rocket slams into the church. Mr. Burns sees this as an opportunity to make some serious cash. He agrees to fund the reconstruction of the church on the condition that it’s his plans. The church, having no choice because they are broke, agree. The new church has advertising and neon signs everywhere. Lisa detests this new high tech church and storms out deciding that Christianity is no longer for her. She turn to Buddhism. This episode also stars Richard Gere.

It is nice to see The Simposons finally being released on DVD. It gives a new dimension to the cartoon that many of us have grown up with. The sound and pictures are crystal clear and the convenience of the DVD menu means u can jump straight to your favourite episode. Also being released are the complete series of Simpsons on DVD.

Special Features on the DVD include a Mr. Burns Featurette. This is a short sketch of all of Mr. Burns’ finest moments. It is short but gets a laugh. On the whole, it is definitely a DVD to have in the collection, even if you are not the die hard fan because it gives u a nice mix of episodes to put on during that rainy weather when your feeling a bit flat. Guaranteed laughs.
