Cutie Honey first reared its head in 1973 and was quickly followed by a TV Series which stuck to the original story line minus many of the lesbian undertones and wanton violence associated with the original piece of magna work.
Skip forward to 2007 and Australia has just been delivered the first live action version of toned down PG rated Cutie Honey with Japan’s leading swimsuit model Eriko Sato starring as Honey herself.
Cutie Honey was bought to live under the leadership of Hideaki Anno famous for his anime work in the Japanese classic Evangelion. The film sticks loosely to the original plot with Honey taking on foe after foe all in the name of humanity, all whilst trying to bring vengeance to Panther Claw the nemeses responsible for her fathers death.
Honey’s powers stem from the ‘Love System’ necklace developed by her late father, the very necklace that allows this office worker to morph into the hero that is Cutie Honey.
It’s a whole bunch of fun as Honey does her stuff whilst trying to avoid the Claw Gang who aspire to nothing more then stealing the necklace off her.
This is 100% Japanese and a definite must for those who dream of their favourite magna characters coming to life. Oh, and I forgot to mention that pink seems to be the choice of colour in this film, so if you don’t like your colours bright and girly avoid this one.
