(Ram Records/Inertia)
This one’s a slammer. Background on Andy C – winner of Knowledge Mag Best drum and bass DJ Award enough times to have nothing to prove, producer of the 100,000 selling 12” ‘Valley of the Shadows’ and UK top 30 hit ‘Bodyrock’ (on 12” sales and no video…)
This mix leaves you in no doubt as to why he’s called the “The Executioner” – 27 tracks in an hour with mixing tight as the duck’s proverbial. Any hair you have will be blown horizontal from the moment you pop this baby in the player. It’s fast. Very fast. This is Saturday night dnb at 2am. Each track barely gets two minute’s worth – he doesn’t let a single breakdown halt the storm. Standouts include the fantastic “Basement Track” from High Contrast, the anthemic “What U Don’t Know” from A-Sides, the tear-out calling card “Vault” from Perth outfit Pendulum and (my pick) SKC’s sublime dancefloor smasher “Free My Soul”.
Not going to knock Marky’s “Brazilian Job” mix for Movement off its perch, this is still an essential snapshot of the current drum and bass dancefloor.
