This latest release from cross-genre producers Layo & Bushwaka! is a tidy follow up to their massive global anthem Love Story. It’s Up to You, taken from the album Night Works, is more of a modern House/Breaks track with legends Roni Size (Reprazent) and Lee Cabrera on remix duties. Layo & Bushwacka! have been in the strongly involved in the dance music scene since their teenage years and their distinctive sound seems to smoothly fuse elements of techno, breakbeat, electro, dub and electronica. This single is simply a perfect example of their broad range of sounds, and influences coming together smoothly to form a unique track.

When you listen to the Radio Edit of a single and it is already a gem you know the rest is going to be stunning; and it sure is. Amazing vocal work that is soulful yet energetic fits well to the dark electric guitar hits sequenced into the track. Smooth break beats throughout are a given from Layo & Bushwacka!, but must be complimented; while the remainder of the track works harmonies into a huge party sound.

The pace explodes as the Roni Size Mix takes over. Featuring squishy dirty bass crunching out as the track runs into its first build-up, which can only be described as drum and bass with attitude. Roni serves up another fresh bass line, losing the harder edge, but still keeping it rolling. The pace settles a little as the laid back house beat of the Lee Cabrera’s Remix. The track has a great deep sound and presents a clever re-combination of the tunes elements. The electro bassline and funky melodies provide a dark sound over the contemplative lyrics. A quality tune accompanied by a couple of solid remixes.
