(Superpeople)

In an inspired move, Sydney clubbing venture Superpeople has branched out to release limited run vinyl pressings. The club has developed a great reputation for getting DJs and musicians together for exciting live collaborations. Anyway, being a regular guest with a new album ready to drop, Meem is a perfect candidate for the first run.

Opener ‘Fuuirm Up’ comes in a remixed form for ultra dancefloor trackiness and Chicago style jacking flavour. Fans of Derrick Carter or any of the Classic/MFF artists will be interested. ‘Bobsya Ankle’ starts all George Clinton with freaky vocals, before dropping into a fat slice of bass-fueled party breakbeat that could just as easily have arrived in a Fingerlickin’ sleeve.

Flip the vinyl over and you’ll find the looped up but a little repetitive ‘Urb & Citi’. Keep playing though and you’ll find the strongest track on the release. ‘Out To Luuchc’ starts out simply and builds up into a tight slice of electro deep house. Little drum rolls and bass lines flesh out the warm comfortable groove.

The bad news. It’s sold out, though the odd copy will be sure to pop up at second hand stores around the place. The good? There’s a new album ‘The Big Hoo Hah’ out now on Inertia. All in all a fantastic start to the series from Superpeople.
