(Collision Records)

I was real happy when given the opportunity to review the new album from Pty Ltd as these guys have been making some noise in House circles of late, and I was interested to hear what they offered up on their debut full length release. The trio from Brisbane have released one EP, ‘Liquid Sunshine’, but that was 2 years ago and things are sure to have changed since then.

The EP included their breakthrough tracks, ‘Who’s been watching you?’ and ‘Feelings Gone’, which have been flogged in club land thanks to the help of some class remixes by Derrick Carter, JT Donaldson and Iz. These mixes helped the group attract interest globally and hopefully this album continues to expand their fan base, both overseas and in Australia.

Their sound has been described by the record company as ’...something new and fresh that’ll go down easier than a Sunday afternoon Martini’, which is a little deceptive as the CD has a lot more in it than just ‘cocktail music’.

It starts off with a straight up funky house track ‘Elevator Lovin’, which is a good intro to their vibe with the smooth vocals of one of the two brothers in the group Tim Tainsh. Tim definitely has a stunning voice, but luckily he doesn’t sing on every track, as it can be a little too sultry at times.

The house vibe continues with beautiful piano arrangement and smooth as bass lines and percussion, until track 3 ‘3 times a day’ explodes with some funky wah wah style effect and vibrant strings. The diva vocals of Juanita and a riff reminiscent of the days of big beat are the focus of ‘Higher’ one of the more clubby tracks of the album. They then surprise us with a gorgeous hip hop number where ‘Raman’ lays some rhymes in a welcomed Aussie accent, while a warm female vocal fills the chorus. Another down tempo track then the crisp beats and scratches of ‘State 53’ greet us. This would have to be my favourite track of the album with its grooving bass line and keys, a deep house track that would someone like Miguel Migs would probably play.
Pty Ltd get nice and jazzy on ‘Goin on’, before bringing the album to a close with some broken beats that really show the breadth of music these guys can cover.

All throughout the album guest musicians are used, with strings, brass and a variety of vocalists contributing to make it a very polished album that is well worth a listen.

Techno heads wont like it and rock pigs wont like it, but if youre partial to well produced, well programmed music made by a couple of talented lads out of Brisbane, I think you should check it out.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
