Elegia, a French deep househead with a long record of great tracks for F Comm has delivered yet another fine 12 for the label. This time it’s the vocal house of ‘So Far Above’, which turns up in two versions.

Kicks off with the sort of almost-industrial synth line you might expect from Front 242, before the warm pads and simple keys cascade into the mix. Cecil Lemoine’s vocal avoids the standard house vocalist histrionics; instead her Royskopp-like understatement is a delicious counter to the underlying beats. The overall impact is a track that’s warm and emotional, but has that underlying edge that affects a listener (and a dancefloor).

The Adult Porn Cut remix keeps it deep, but roughs things up for a tougher hypnotic groove, with resung portions of the song and New Order-style bass. It’s jacking house with the sort of vocal that will move it into big rooms around town.

With a new tune ‘I’m Not Worried Anymore’ on the way, I hope this record gets the push it deserves. It’s not only a great deep house tune, it’s the sort of track that picked up by major league DJs could easily end up being a long-time club classic.
