(Little Mountain Recordings)

As the first single release from Sander Kleinenberg’s new Little Mountain Recordings label, one of the producers of the year showcases his talent to create ‘big-room’ music.

Steve Porter has recorded and worked with everyone from John Debo, Matthew Dekay, and his Agent 001 partner Eli Wilkie; but this time he takes the reins by himself, and Definite Form has already found its way into the box of Sasha, Digweed, Kleinenberg and Burridge. After recording the epic remix of Amber – Anyway on Bedrock, the funky and twisted Daniel Wiggy on Mother Tongue, and the soon to be released Vodka Cranberries on Nu-Republic – Porter has proved he can pull genres out of a hat, and Definite Form is no exception.

The Jumpin Dub has become somewhat of the original, moulding funky synth stabs with a heavy bassline, and that little touch of ‘Porter’ that seems to emanate from his production work. Within the peaks, a nifty breakbeat jumps in, and melds nicely with xylophonic infused chords. As it kicks out, the snarling progressive elements bang out, and it is without doubt one of the standout tracks of the year.

Getting remix duties, (or should that be privileges?), is Remy Unger and Roland Klinkenberg (aka The RR Workshop); with the alliteration filled Remy & Roland Remix. Less uplifting-ness and more grimace are present from the get-go, as the excellent breakbeat introduction will show you. Not quite as psycho as the two’s Dustsucker single from this year, but a nice remix that keeps some of the great qualities of the original.

Without a doubt one of the best tracks of the year, and with a full production album on the way we will definitely be hearing more of the Porter excellence.

LMR001 is out now.
