(Shock)

Probably destined to forever be known as the guy behind Baby Got Back album number six shows that not a lot has changed in the life of the man they call Sir Mix-a-Lot the fur coat is on and the rhymes are dirty, but would you expect anything else.

Bursting onto the scene in the gangsta dominated era of the late 80’s saw Sir release a number of platinum and gold album’s and even pocket a coveted Grammy for his previously mentioned mainstream smash Baby Got Back a track that continues to be pillaged by pop culture today (witness its use on friends earlier this year).

So, after a 7 year hiatus the dumping of his record label and the moving on of a portion of his fan base the question remains can Sir drop a relevant record well the answer is both yes and no.

The album is a tight enough package the beats are funky (if a touch repetitive) and are in a style that really suit mix-a-lot’s voice and showcase that he has developed as a producer from early works.

The lyrics are for me what let’s the album down however for many of his true fans it will be what sets him apart from the pack. Always known for his comical delivery and pimp type stature daddy’s home is no exception Party Ova Here, Big Ho, Game Don’t Get Old & Nasty Girl showcase his true skills and wit in his delivery but for me it grows a little tiring too quickly.

The album is 15 tracks deep and although he makes a point not to slip into the ‘bling, bling’ and ‘cristal’ laced rhymes of so many the never ending references to ‘dicking ho’s’ and being a ‘playa’ for me can grow just as tiring. That said there is only really one awful track in Big Johnson a track all about how big peoples dicks are, now as a comic concept it could have worked but this aint a Rodney Rude album and the chanted chorus of ‘she likes a great big johnson’ is just weak.

Now having stated my gripes it is true I have never been a fan of the comic type hip hop and as such this didn’t win me over but fans of his earlier work will now doubt agree that daddy is home.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
