(White Label)

a. Sultan & Tonedepth Mix

Tribal Progressive at it’s finest! Or maybe I should just say Trip-Hop? Whatever the case my be, this remix of Portishead’s classic can’t be missed by anyone that touches tribal, progressive, dub, ambient, or simply electronic music. I personally don’t know too much about Sultan & Tonedepth other than Sultan’s a good DJ from what I’ve heard. And if his mixes are anything like this track, I need to find some of his mixes at my local music store. Since this release is a whitelabel and the song is pretty old, it’s highly likely that this is an unofficial release.

The Sultan & Tonedepth Mix is basically the exact same as the original, but it has been beefed up to give it a more wicked tribal feel. The sounds have been amped and the bass and snare has been raised to give it that hypnotic rush. Only a few lines from Beth Gibbons are kept as in a minimal breakdown that works just right in keeping the groove going. The element of slow, elastic beats over a smooth dark atmosphere just gives me chills when I listen to this track.

Not too much to say since there wasn’t much that Sultan & Tonedepth added, except edit the cub into a monster that everyone can dig their claws into.
