Having joined the Good Looking Records camp in 1997; Big Bud (Robin O’Reilly) is a producer who has slowly built his trademark deep, late night sound which spans genres such as drum and bass, down tempo, and dub. His achievements so far include two quality artist albums: ‘Infinity+Infinity’ and ‘Late Night Blues’, track appearances on a number of volumes of the Earth and Progression Sessions series, and numerous vinyl releases including his debut track, Emotionography included on this release.

This collection puts some of his more popular tracks alongside collectable tracks never before available on CD format. This release marks the seventh in the Producer series and like others in this series the compilation defines the artist’s early, breakthrough and experimental tracks spanning over a decade of studio work.

The compilation track kicks off with the deep dub grooves of the original mix of Runaway. The Backwards Dub of this tune is also included which is a softer groovy version of this atmospheric track. Included are many funkier tracks which follow some of the deeper sounds. Stone Groove drops a groovy bass line and punchy atmospheric sounds, while Blueberry Muffins picks up the pace with some driving Latin rhythms. Distant Space shows off the ability of this producer to create a spatial vibe using many interesting sounds and funky guitar licks panning throughout the track. The soft bongo rhythms are a great accompaniment to this tune.

The deep growling bass lines of Indian Summer, and the rolling chilled feel of Freedom and High Times are great examples of the relaxed drum and bass vibe Big Bud can create. His first release Emotionography is a great atmospheric deep bass track which was featured on the first Progression sessions album. The final release will contain a bonus DVD included with 5.1 surround sound, artist images, biography and discography information. The tracks are all mixed in 5.1 surround which is an excellent feature for this style of music based in sound and its movements. The general sound can be best summarised as striking, deep, emotional drum and bass and beats. This music is all about setting a vibe, and each of the 9 tracks creates a different intensity, energy, ambience or atmosphere for the listener.
