(Commerical Suicide)
A – Positive/Negative
B – Hearing Voices
Break, best known for his work with Silent Witness on DNAudio, Eastside and No-U-Turn steps out on a solo flex for Klute’s label Commercial Suicide.
Positive/Negative is the killer here, with a washy, eerie opening that gives way to a frenetic “plink-plonk” stab. The drums, however, are what makes this track. Using a heap of different, but instantly recognisable drum breaks, the track switches up frequently without feeling disjointed or forced. A dub influenced breakdown sets the track up for another aural onslaught, with another section of drum science coming through nicely. Badman tune right here.
The flip, Hearing Voices, is more of a roller as compared to the A-side. Once again, a sparse intro, but instead of busting into fierce drum action, the track takes a more liquid approach. A bubbling b-line, some nice pads and cut-up vocal snippets make this track reminiscent of the techier stuff by Marcus Intalex & S.T Files. A really well thought out track, on a really well thought out 12” from Commerical Suicide.
Watch for Break’s collaboration with Hydro, “Breathless/Deliverance” coming on DNAudio in the next couple of months. Caned by everyone from Goldie to Zinc, this track is pure Darrell Eastlake. Huge.
