(A Higher Sound)

A: Craig Obey Remix
AA1: Original Mix
AA2: Aviators Remix

I figured I’d start on the Original Mix, which is on the flip side. It opens with groovy Latin chords and a nice house beat. Vocal samples introduce the very salsa style bass line. A cool piano riff joins this and we have the crux of the track. Its especially groovy, very sexy and unmistakeably funky, the sound would really suit an outside summer festival. A male vocal breaks up the track a bit “Fiesta Latina”. After a nice break with some smooth chords it all kicks in with an additional trumpet, which is really fitting to the sound. This plays out for a while until another smaller and break and the original loop returns for the outro.

The Aviators Mix on the same side is broken up with snares. It is essentially much deeper and slowly builds with a vox sample and percussive hits. After a chilled vocal break it changes into classy deep Latin style house. The second break features the trumpet and some additional synth sounds. This track is really groovy, great remix.

On the A side Craig Obey has his interpretation pressed firmly. It opens with a snare rhythm and some vocal samples, essentially the same vocals as the other two mixes. Filtered Latin chords build with the trumpet to introduce a similar track to the original mix. This version has some nice subtle percussion. It’s suited more for the dance floor with stuttered builds and a more diverse structure. The first break sees the track change to a tougher tribal sound, still Latin but with less octave changes. The piano still features but it is used a bit more as a tool rather than a distinct part. The track gets more tribal toward the end and then returns to the lush Latin style. A great dance floor remix.

The track is really funky, very Summery and could find a place within most funky house sets.
