(NEWS/Stomp)

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something…green? Such is the attractive visage that stares back from the cover of the latest release from Belgian’s electro poster-boy. The good news is that this is certainly a return-to-form for the ubiquitous electro compilation. Nothing faddish or too-cool-for-school here – just a selection of quality releases spanning the past 20 years of the genre.

Dr Lectroluv kicks things off with Alexander Robotnik’s 1983 Italo-disco classic Dance Boy Dance. Miss Kittin, Kiko, The Hacker and a swathe of bootlegs have all paid homage to this enigmatic producer, and with good reason. He’s the real deal. Fad Gadget’s track from the same era – Lady Shave – is another worthy inclusion, a definite album highlight.

The newer school of producers such as Anthony Rother and Break 3000 hold their own with tracks like Back Home and Emolition, while Bankok Impact’s Aus Birgittes Tagebuch was a revelation to this reviewer’s ears. Classy stuff.

The Dr knows what he likes, and combines tracks with finesse. If you consider yourself a fan of the genre, or someone who’d like to explore the world of electro, then pick up this release without hesitation.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
