(Ubiquity/Creative Vibes)

In the year 2000 when the Theo Parrish originally released this masterpiece on his Sound Signature label, music lovers were struck with the problem of trying to get their hands one of the 1000 copies released worldwide.  Just recently Mr Parrish graced Australia with his unique and mysterious presence in a national tour that many will not ever forget.

Much to the delight of this Sound Signature fan, Ubiquity records were given the opportunity to re-release Parallel Dimensions on CD and LP.  Theo’s striking arrangements of echoes, horns, haunted vocals and resonating basslines are entrancing as they appear throughout this album. Is this house? Is this techno?  Theo throws all these subtitles out the window.  This is Theo Parrish… busy rhythms, staccato claps, gorgeous melodies and off beats that confuse the mind but move the body in peculiar ways.

So now what is the first single as it breaks out with a burst of repetitive horns and drum patterns, the cuts and repetition start to sway into an infectious introductory swing that builds in intensity as each secreted sound and sample gets introduced.

Anansies Dances is haunting and tribal, the vocal samples reverberate in and out and fade into a hypnotic sway of whispers, whistles and thumps. Serengeti Echoes builds into a captivating collection of vocals, disco-like loops and luscious strings – a 12 minute epic that keeps you listening from woe to go.

Reaction to Plastic definitely leans towards a quicker and busier techno beat, the warming strings and swift clapping bassline pulsates with raw dancefloor energy as does Space Ghosts both tunes so reminiscent of the early techno sounds of fellow Detroit musicians, but of course arranged in the alluring hypnotic way that only Theo can.

Summertime is Here makes a quick left in terms of music direction, a sweet vocal breaks out in the beginning and a brooding bassline slowly peaks it’s way through.  It makes the gloomiest of days turn to summer as it title suggests – beautifully happy and content emotions.  Brain Collaboration, very much like So now what in its use of repetition and rhythmic composition – cutting and pasting to build a strange musical atmosphere.

This is a must have CD for ALL music lovers, a collection of tunes that are evidence of the musical inventiveness that Theo Parrish lends to all his production work.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
