Sounds On Sunday the club: Good weather, perfect venue, nice crowd. You can either relax and chill out or get down, go hard and dance like the weekend’s just starting.
Sounds On Sunday the cd: Two of Sydney’s favourite DJs mixing intelligent music that will let you both chill out and shake your groove thang. Simple as that.

Sounds On Sunday’s first mixed compilation is something different from most club compilations. It isn’t filled with the most commercially successful floor fillers, but instead stays true to the DJs who mixed it and the result is a combination of intelligent laid back house and uplifting progressive.

Disc One, mixed by Paul ‘Flex’ Taylor is a collection of house tunes which are more grooving and laid-back than I had expected. A good representation of the Cocktail Bar and Courtyard, this disc wouldn’t personally get me up on the dance floor, but is perfect to listen to. Being more of a progressive fan, I’m surprised that this disc has been high on my CD rotation, but the clever track selection of grooving soulful tunes has me hooked. Best picks would be The Rising Sun (Danny Tenaglia remix) by Heller & Farley and La Chitara (DJ Antoine Vs Mad Mark Remix) by Pizza Boys.

Disc Two, mixed by Ben Korbel is an interesting selection of progressive house and trance tracks that are more my cup of tea when expending energy on the dance floor. Starting with the Hybrid dub of BT’s Godspeed, and mixing into the Peace Division mix of Touch Me, you can see we have a popular selection of tunes but with some great remixes. I was surprised to see Kylie Minogue in the list with a mix of her track Too Far (but don’t worry, it’s not bad, and if you like the sound of Kylie’s voice, you’ll love it). Stand out tracks for me are the classic Horizons (Way Out West mix) by James Holden and Drop Some Drums (Ivan & Phil’s Dark Alley Mix) by [Love] Tattoo.

This really is a great compilation. It’s not your typical floor filler and commercial hit mix. Instead we have a bunch of tunes which are true to the DJs form displayed in their full glory for us to hear. With only 12 tracks on each disc you are guaranteed to appreciate the tracks instead of hearing three minute grabs of them.
