Dynamo Productions! Mention the name to anyone who’s seen the duo of Scott Hendy and Andy Smith in action and instantaneously a smile will creep across their face as they reminisce those few well-spent hours on the Dynamo dancefloor. The Bristol hip hop junkies have won Australian audiences over with their annual tours whereby they spread their infectious sense of fun and encyclopaedic music knowledge onto ever growing crowds.  A set can incorporate everything from old school funk, to thrashing rock to the latest hip hop releases and more, if they can fit it in they’ll give anything a spin.

Get It Together is Dynamo Productions latest CD release and is a collection of remixes of tracks from their 2003 release Analogue by peers such as Geoff Barrows (Portishead), Krafty Kuts, Katalyst and Fort Knox; as well as tracks from their infamous vinyl only Showtime EP’s and a couple new Dynamo tracks. Analogue saw Andy and Scott step out behind their respective “Portishead tour DJ” and “Boca 45” tag lines, wooing fans with the Dynamo name alone. Having etched themselves favourably into the scene, Get it Together is a chance to catch up on where the boys last left off, both revisiting the old and a touch of the new.

Leading single for Get it Together is the Dynamo Productions vs The Jim Entley Sound Sysem (produced by Portishead) mix of Analogue fave Back to Basics. To be honest it doesn’t differ greatly to the original, retaining the same structure and vocals, complemented by subtle additional production work. Smoove turn A Message from the King into an extended funky jam, making use of the original beat and doubling the track length. Sonar Sound is transformed from a slow party hip-hop track to one with a more repetitive “clubby” feel to it by Scott Whyte. Fort Knox Five make Get It Together more of a “soul groove” than an old school funk number whilst Hundred Strong decide that there’s not a lot to Slipp Inn they want to change, keeping it’s dreamy methodical hook.

Aussie hip-hop guru Katalyst gets a chance to remix the Showtime track Casbah whilst Krafty Kuts vs The Mexican take on Give Some Space. The former being upbeat and energetic, the latter slower and fun with en ever present hum of a bassline.

Dynamo fans who aren’t vinyl junkies (or perhaps vinyl junkies too slow to snap up these gems), this is a worthy addition to your collections and proof that “Dynamo Productions” is fast becoming a stamp of approval. It’s music for all occasions, being something you can listen to around the house, getting ready to go out, you name it and you’ll find an excuse to put this on.
