From local outfit the Bird, a longtime live favourite, comes a new mini-album in the form of ‘Music for Reset People’. Containing 8 tracks (or 7 if you don’t count a short MC monologue), Simon Worthington (Synths, keys, percussion) and Ben Walsh (Drums, percussion) show off a wide range of sounds and styles on this new release.

For those who don’t know, they use drum ‘n bass beats, combined with, dub grooves, analogue melodies (that can verge into trance territory), and of course the wonderful percussive talents of Bobby Singh on Tabla.

The first part of the CD covers a more diverse range of sounds, from the 60’s garage beats on ‘Flight’, through to the restrained and chilled dub layering of ‘Samurai Dub’ and the intense syncopated beats of the trancey ‘Lei Kung’. As the album progresses, they move into more traditional drum ‘n bass territory highlighted by the funky ‘Mystery Groove’ and the dark ‘Where Lines Become Circles’.

True to their on-stage performances, four of the tracks were actually recorded live in the studio, without any sequencing or sampling, and is therefore a fairly accurate representation of their live set. A great release that further shows the depth and diversity of talent in this country.
