(Parlophone/EMI)

Following up the trio’s self titled debut album, ‘One’ is the latest to come from the boys we’ve come to know and love as Dirty Vegas.

This CD, featuring 10 brand new songs – including the single ‘Walk into the Sun’, is a compilation of tracks with a hybrid rock/chill sound. Each song on ‘One’ has a different sound to it and I guess most will find at least one track appealing to them. The awesome vocals from Steve Smith hold the tracks together firmly and form a diverse yet consistent sound to the group’s latest release.

The unique combination of talent is what makes Dirty Vegas such an appealing band to many. Each member with their own distinctive background adds a different perspective to the music they’ve now been producing for 2 years. Steve Smith is the bands vocalist, acoustic guitarist and drummer. Ben Harris is a guitarist and keyboardist with past experience in sound-engineering and producing. Finally, Paul Harris who is of no relation to Ben, is also the bands guitarist and keyboardist and has had experience DJing professionally.

‘One’, is a musical experience reaching into the depths of a distinct rock sound made electronic. Each of the ten tracks have vocals and some form of percussion and guitar, and on the CD only about one or two of the songs could probably be classified within the dance genre. The highlight on the CD, with its very slow almost progressive feel, acoustic guitar and really well performed vocals, was track 8 – ‘In This Life’. All the remaining tracks showed the boys definite talent for what they do, although with features that didn’t fascinate me.

Overall, the CD is a good effort and has a well produced and consistent sound to it. The album wont be a favorite to many, especially those expecting anything close to ‘Days Go By’, but there is definitely a song on ‘One’ for all to enjoy.
