Gorillaz a supergroup or a collection of funky cartoon characters with weird beats? Well after listening to their debut I would suggest a little from column A little from column B.

Gorillaz is a collaboration of wide range of artists as diverse as Del Tha Funky Homosapien and Blur’s Damon Albarn among others and as you would expect this release is as diverse as their varied styles.

Drawing on a wide range of influences from Hip Hop & Jamaican Reggae with their unbelievably catchy single “Clint Eastwood” & “Rock the House” through to the distinct sounds of Punk on the heavily alternative and appropriately named “Punk” this release is definitely one set to draw in a diverse crew of listeners. I would best describe it as music made for Triple J, as the sounds are very similar to the variance which can be found on Australia’s so called youth radio station.

Although a quite solid overall release it was a little to eclectic for my own personal tastes and would suit more of the audience you could expect to find at a Spearhead concert and is more likely to be found in the collection of your moshing/skating friends than in that of your clubbing/raving ones.

If you like your dance on the alternative side of things I would say this one could definitely find a home amongst your collection.

Nobody has hearted this, be the first Be the first!
