Having spent the past few years establishing himself as part of Brothers In Rhythm alongside Steve Anderson, Dave Seaman has once again redefined himself, developing the new Group Therapy project. The release sticks to the sound he has developed over the years and is part of the production work that will ultimately be included in an artist album. My Own Worst Enemy is the first of several singles due to be released by Dave Seaman in conjunction with former DMC world mixing champion and fellow artist Chad Jackson. The vocals featured throughout the track are by Irish vocalist Natalie Leonard and track is written by Dave Seaman and Steve Anderson
The release comes in the form of a double vinyl pack titled light and dark with fitting cover art. The ‘Original Mix’ is a huge driving house track, with beautiful sweeping sounds, layered melodies and a killer bassline that will set prog dance floors on fire. The track builds up to a huge lead which works nicely with Natalie’s vocals and leads to a guitar break that builds from nothing into an epic finale. Trafik’s Sleeping with the Enemy Mix takes the sound a little deeper with some great atmospheric sounds, tight break beats and great use of the vocal cuts which are sliced and diced to perfection.
The accompanying light record presents a few more different takes on the track. The Group Therapy Dub is a thumping progressive remix with a huge bassline and carefully placed synths which create a great energy throughout the remix. The Yoshi and OMB’s Womb Tribal Mix is excellent and has a deeper and more chilled sound. This mix really comes into its own with the tribal elements scattered throughout the remix. The final mix in this pack is the ‘Spector’ remix which presents a cool and classy ambient rework with loads of subtle textures, strings and beats creating a great late night mix.
This release cements Dave Seaman’s return to the production field and with more mixes of ‘My Own Worst Enemy’ to come, and the artist album well underway, look out ofr further releases. The highlight mixes in my opinion are the great progressive breaks sounds of the Trafik’s Sleeping with the Enemy Mix and the driving Group Therapy Dub which will no doubt be copping plays by many of the big names in coming months. Overall, this is a very comprehensive set of mixes which has something for everybody ranging from the dance floor oriented to relaxing on the terrace. Highly recommended for anyone who loves melodic and vocal progressive releases.
