Hmmmmmm… Dare I say I’m eating my own words a little bit now. Taking off from the last Tidy sampler, which was loaded with new tracks that have been ripping up dance-floors the world over, this time around, it has left me, well….a little flat really.
The first track Mastermind has that euphoric hand in the air feel to it, very smooth, uplifting and soothing. It climbs slowly with the riffs and twists and turns taking us on a musical journey in itself, however I felt that with such a great melody it was missing a little bit of heart in it, that little something which takes a track from being good to it being great. Though the remix has a lot more pace to it, it didn’t really win me over and I feel that with such a great base it leaves room for this track to really blow the roof off every house, it just needs the right hands to remix it.
Though my opinion may be a little harsh and cynical, on the flip side to it, this Dutch duo definitely have the right formula and the track has already received staunch support from the likes of Lee Haslam, Guyver, Rob Tissera and Steve Hill. Easily said, it might be one of those tracks that grow on you slowly.
Next up in line we have the new release from the golden trio of Hard-house at the moment. Unfortunately again…. I’m going to shake my head and say “Nope”. The original version of Fierce, even after repeated listening left me with only two words to say about it “pure noise”. To me there was nothing exciting happening and aside from everything else I found that you could not even dance to it. I honestly expected more to the track than what it actually is, especially as I have already said that there are 3 great producers behind it.
However on a positive note…. The Paul Maddox Remix of Fierce blew me away by far! He had taken all the elements that I felt did not work in the original mix, combined them with some great build ups amongst other things and wrapped it all around the melody to give it the attitude it needed. He managed to make a bland track fantastic. The riffs and the euphoric melodies in his remix were unified with a lot of groove and attitude and I believe this version will take club-land by storm this summer.
Aside from severely criticising these new releases, I will say though, that the production work behind it, is still by far superior than a lot of other hard-house releases and one which firmly gives the tidy sound its own arena with their production work. They have the ability to experiment and build on each track that is released through the label and are consistent in producing technically brilliant tracks.
