The lead single from the new artist album Two Worlds Collide by David Morales is anthemic New York house. Arriving with two mixes masquerading as five, the main mix does not break new ground, but captures a summery feel.
The main mix, the Stereo Anthem Mix, is really a ‘by the numbers’ vocal house track that will work well in mainstream clubland. Despite not breaking new ground, the track does have a bounce and a hook that makes you want to throw your hands in the air, for those of us who unabashedly do such things. Beginning with a phat kick drum, the percussion layers build to create the house feel. The vocal sample fades in, and is quickly joined by synth and piano chords. After a short breakdown, the house beat resumes heralding the start of the first verse. The melody is pleasant enough, and builds nicely to a reasonably uplifting chorus. The bridge introduces some funky keyboards and then sweeping synths before a breakdown. The track then resumes its very danceable feel.
Things get harder, more techy and more stripped back on the second mix, the Stereo Anthem Dub. The beats are tough, and the vocal is two samples from the chorus but sung in a harsher style to match the overall harder sound. Apart from the vocal samples, there is little in this mix that resembles the lush feel of the first mix. “If it were truly love” then this would not be the mix you would choose. The vocal sample is then stripped out to create the third mix (Stereo Anthem Intrumental), but I cannot see how this adds to the track.
The final two mixes are a Radio Mix, and an Extended Mix of this, which essentially edit out the longer percussive introduction of the main mix plus some other non-essential elements. Overall, this song is a good track for happy summer days (choosing one of the vocal mixes), and useful if things go awry, by choosing the second mix on the single.
