(Abstract Inc)

A: Alien Nation
B: Ogo

TKO, fresh from huge releases in Therapy and the Circles 2004 VIP with Adam F on Breakbeat Kaos, step out on a solo flex with a couple of dancefloor stormers on new label, Abstract Inc.

The A side, Alien Nation, begins with a series of descending stabs and a culled vocal sample espousing the power of the mind, and an epic trance-esque lead that gives way to some storming, sub-laden dancefloor. Rather than going with the looped up nature of most of the dancefloor dnb that’s going around these days, TKO fill the tune with some classy switches and rolling basslines, a world away from the piercing mids and wobble that have become the norm for many artists in this genre. A rather cool rolling fill hits for the second drop, while a female vocal pops up to give the tune some breathing space, then the onslaught begins again. Great peaktime, 3am drum and bass.

The flip, Ogo, is a world away from the A side, with chugging, technoid vibes a plenty. Massive reece styles on this one, combined with shuffling drums and some sick amen fills. Again, as with Alien Nation, the switches are rather wicked, and the drops come quick and fast. A teasing breakdown in the middle of the tune lulls you into a false sense of security and then, bam!, the tune kicks back in with a vengeance.

Props to the Abstract Inc boys for doing something different and fresh in the often samey dancefloor market, and we can expect more of this style of stuff from the lads in the near future, with Abstract Inc’s focus to be more on the experimental side of things, but with dancefloor sensibilities.

TKO have started up another label for the more mainstream stuff they’re doing, KO-Phonic, and it promises to be the goods. Check the news section for info about upcoming releases, TKO and the labels themselves.
