Title : Poetry & Rhythm
Artist : Ron Carroll feat. Lady D.
Label : Body Music
Catalogue Number : BM082
After the massive sucess of Body Music’s debut release – Ron Carroll vs E-Smoove “Take Me Up” – which is presently on playlists all over the world and picked by NME in the UK as one of the ten best records of WMC 2001, Ron is back with “Poetry & Rhythm” featuring Super Jane member, Afterhours A&R dame, and ELR8R June cover star, Lady D on vocals. With three mixes here, there is one to wet every House DJ’s whistle. “The Rhythm Movement Original” is Ron’s own mix and predominantly uses Lady D’s poetry reading to the fullest. With it’s long intro for mixing (which is a trademark of Ron’s production work) this is a track for the skilled DJ who can work this record to its full potential. Everything seems to drop out and return at just the right times as Ron nails a perfect arrangement here. Just when the groove gets you, in comes Lady D as she asks, “Can we find true love together? Forever?”. The music’s movement stops and starts like the act of something we are all familiar with :) With it’s pulsing bass line and smooth pads, this is as much a dark and mellow affair as it is one for the prime time crowd.
The B Side begins with Richie Heller’s vocal Mix, a pure main room rocker. Richie took the framework that Ron assembled and added hard kicks, well done filters and a male vocal. “We’re making love. Sweet, sweet love,” sings this beautiful vocoded vocal, this one will definitely keep any room rocking. The last track on the B side is Jason Dunne’s Sunrise Mix which has very obvious Tech-House overtones and leaning towards the progressive side of house – this mix is unique in every way. A pulsing, panning guitar samples drives the track and the vocals basically just appear out of nowhere, much to the delight of your dance floor. There are guitar fills that actually give this mix a bluesy feel if you can imagine hearing the Blues whilst bopping around to hard beats. When all’s said and done, this is a must have release for any house or tech house DJ anywhere. This label has a bright future and we get to bask in its light… nice one Ron Carroll.
