(Om Records/Stomp)
Founded in the mid nineties, San Franciscan based label, ‘Om Records’ has built itself a reputation for consistently producing fresh, innovative and above all timeless house music. With a gamut of forward looking artists on their books, and an equal number of production heavy weights ready to put their own unique twist on the Om sound, comes the second in the ‘OM remixed’ series.
Opening proceedings is Miguel Migs remixing his own 2004 release ‘Come On’; it’s a warm and sensuous track that instantly engages you. The album then slinks its way towards late night dance floor specialist ‘Kaskade’, who gets a going over of the bump and grind kind from Canada’s Jason Hodges, a definite standout on the album. Having produced his first major release with Mushroom Jazz’s Mark Farina, it is only fitting to have Derrick Carter putting his trademark quality sound to Farina’s ‘To Do’, later on in the album Farina also gets reworked by DJ Fluid, who enhances the already hypnotically beautiful ‘Dream Machine’ with delicate electronic treasures.
Jacob London gets busy with some deep rhythmic basslines and steps up the funk with ‘Rithma’s’, ‘Everyone is sleeping today,’ whilst Kaskade fuses his fresh, pulsating blend of house to aFRO-mYSTIK’s original deep house groove ‘Natural’. The tempo then lifts with Doron Orenstein and Gabriel D Vin (aka Monkey Bars) who add some juicy jacking beats to the Kaskade hit ‘Steppin Out’. With no fear of slowing down, the vibe continues to pulse with France’s Pepe Bradock who adds his uniquely tasteful but very sexy style to Soulstice’s ‘Tenderly’, and no Om album is complete without the rhythm and b-boy soul of ‘PUTS’, who take to J Boogie’s ‘Try Me’ with an impressive array of warmth and style.
Guaranteed to satisfy each and every time, reMixed 2 is what real house music sounds like.
