(Little Mountain Recordings/Stomp)
Pete Tong selected the original of The Fruit as “Essential Tune of the Week” for three weeks last year, describing it as a “bass-heavy anthem with hooks in all the right places.” So, it comes as no surprise this track has gone huge, and should remain so given the new remixes being released.
The Buick Project Mix (from Nic Fanciulli, Skylark) is a more tribal track, its big sounds and upped tempo having peak hour house written right over it. The vocals are less prominent in the mix, with the beats brought to the fore.
The NuFrequency Mix (from Shield, Oxyd Records) also ups the tempo, but in a different direction. The track has a more electro feel to it, almost nu-wave at times. Determined synthesized beats drive the pace, with plenty of squelchy touches thrown in towards the end. The Tom Novy Club Mix also sees a more synthesized filter applied to the track, albeit with a funkier emphasis.
The Tom Novy Dub Mix is quite a contrast. It’s a bit sparser than the previous remixes, with only fragments of vocals, and the distorted melodies very prominent. There’s a rather progressive feel to second half. Sander Kleinenberg’s BMK Mix to it is in a simular vein, but more base-heavy. I felt that sometimes the track was almost unrecognisable as a remix.
With the various remixes being released on numerous singles, this is a track that’s sure to get your booty shakin’, whether you’re into house or breaks, techno or prog.
