(Dirty/FMR)
Back in January at the Sydney Big Day Out, I was one of 20,000 eager punters crammed into the Boiler Room to witness New Zealander hip-hop stars Scribe and P-Money. Listening to the single ‘Stop The Music’ takes me back to that afternoon.
The second single off P-Money’s second album, Magic City, ‘Stop The Music’ comes on the back of his work on Scribe’s award winning debut album, The Crusader, production credits for four NZ top ten hits last year, and even a bronze Technics DMC World DJ Championship placing in 2001 to boot.
‘Stop The Music’ sees Scribe repay P-Money for his role on The Crusader, laying down streetwise yet emotional lyrics over P-Money’s tight production. “I couldn’t just walk away and just pretend like I don’t have more to say”, he declares, “it’s loud and clear and it’s deep inside my soul”.
On the chorus, he’s joined by newcomer PNC on what makes for an awesome hook. After the sparse, subdued sound of the verse, the energy of the chorus really stands out and would work well live. The pair will be back in the country in May for the ‘Stop The Music’ tour, and I’m sure this track will be a highlight.
