Let me say that I really like Miss Kittin. She, like all things French, is sexy and sublime without really giving much of a fuck. Most of her material is inane if not pornographic and her style reeks of Audrey Hepburn mixed with Angelina Jolie. She is a modern mistress. Her collaborations with The Hacker and Sven Vath have propelled her into the international music spotlight – as have songs like Frank Sinatra – a nether-worldly fuck-fest, basically. Either way, this release shows she has a little bit more maturity, although not much!

Requiem for a Hit comes after her first single, Professional Distortion, and features on her new album I-com. The so-called Original Requiem is typically Miss Kittin – it possesses a parody and satire unequalled in the world of electronic music, whilst being charming and fun to listen to. There is talk of beating a bitch with something which is of course, expected.

A1 is a fast-paced electro number which breaks down into an unrelated vocal harangue and then picks up again. The GE-GM remix is similar but with a more clubby vibe – it has a subdued 4×4 beat and a piano loop with an old school siren and the same vocal sample – courtesy of L.A Williams. The Abe Duque mix is the most detached of the 4 – it is a slower, acid-house number. The 303 is chunky and the lyrics are mostly missing, but the style is far more plausible for parties and clubs who might scare the less open-minded punters with electro or breakbeat.

All in all, a pleasant compilation of what is really 2 tracks, stretched out to become 4. It should cover a few bases for DJs and will impress the many electro fans of Miss Kittin and The Hacker. Others ought to have a listen first, just to make sure it’s up their alley.
