House aficionados ‘OM’ are back with the fifth in their standout ‘Sounds of Om’ series. Mixed once again by OM front man ‘DJ Fluid’, this album contains sought after remixes, dance floor faves and previously unreleased tracks from the past year.

Less chilled than its predecessors, the order of the day here is vibrant, soulful and solid house, featuring OM regulars Kaskade, Colette, Rithma, Mark Farina and King Kooba. The formula used is a tried and true one and whilst some tracks have appeared on previous OM compilations, DJ Fluid ensures they are delivered with a fresh and enticing new twist.

Highlights include that 2004 underground booty shakin’ piece of funk by Mark Farina, ‘Dream Machine’. Andy Caldwell’s ‘The Waiting Game’ with its electro-tinged vocals, dance floor ready beats and textured digital effects. The deliciously sweet and soulful ‘The Funk Is Still Alive’ from one of music’s better friends, Rithma. New OM teamsters Joshua and Karl Injex serve it up as luscious and feisty as you can get in ‘The Sun, The Moon, The Stars’ and JT Donaldson’s ‘Trust Me’, featuring vocals by Symphony oozes with charm and funky brass.

When a label moves out as many compilations as OM currently does, you run the risk of tedious repetition, but this San Fran crew continues to go from strength to strength. Very nice work indeed.
