(Soma/Stomp)

Soma Records and techno favourite Funk D’Void is back new single, a taster perhaps of his forthcoming fourth album due later this year. Collaborating with Phil Kieran, who remixed Slam’s recent single This World and other releases on Soma, Lost in Belfast is the first single the pair have worked on together.

Described as bass-heavy main floor techno – Lost In Belfast is all this and more. Metallic, driving techno, turns into skipping tech-house, with insane loops, a bit of hoover sucking to get you rushing, plus a moody compelling reverse hoover/sound effect to get you hooked. Likewise, there’s the element of funkiness that other Funk D’Void releases and this brand of techno emanates. Lost In Belfast builds and lifts, and will peak any audience if dropped at the right time during a DJ set.

A slightly slower pace than the first track, the B-Side, Black Worms is a tasty slice of bleeps and beat-driven tech-house, but it’s likely to have good cross-over appeal for breakbeat fans due to the metallic and minimal sounds it uses. At times it sort of sounds like a machine with indigestion! The track builds cleverly using mechanical sounds, whooshes and hoovers, but the best sound would have to be the electronic bass sound which literally purrs from the speaker. I’d have to say it would get me purring like a pussycat if a DJ dropped it! (wink wink) In fact either track would. Funk D’Void never seems to disappoint and this single is no exception!
