(MetalHeadz/Inertia)
Tycoon by Commix kicks off proceedings with an intermittent haunting synth and vocal sample with a bouncy, loopy bassline that cuts and stabs, with sounds of the mixer peaking and jamming. Likewise, Klute brings the noise with Can’t See the Grooves – a similarly brazen number with an absolutely devastating set of breakdowns, sure to tear up any drum and bass shindig.
No Compromise - Outrage brings the tempo down a little with a slamming but slightly jazzier number which of course is the calm before the Goldie storm. He has a knack for making his music sound effortless and groovy while being threatening and sinister. Seemingly easily then, Say you Love Me is the Rufige mix (Goldie and Technical Itch). Like his love of all things beautiful, the lyrics are sublime and the beats crisp, but the breakdowns of course, brutal. Scam from Marcus Intalex as well as tracks from OB1, Drifter and Ill Skillz feature – in all an attempt to bring the old and the new together to create a snapshot of one of the world’s most influential drum and bass labels.
The second CD features Goldie in the mix doing what he does best. Fishing out the best of the old and the new and presenting it all in one super tough package – this time, of 17 tracks. No Goldie mix would be complete without some typically sexy vocals mixed up either, so they are present – along with the crisp cuts and beats that he is best known for. Artists include Digital, Drifter, Beta 2 and of course, Goldie himself.
It’s basically evil and dark and everything that I expect Metalheadz fans would absolutely love. Not that the menacing and mysterious Clifford Price would have it any other way, right?
