(Fat!/Inertia)
Listen up break-heads; this is one the best breaks singles this year so far. It’s very nu-skool and hard, while only a millimetre away on the flip side it’s deep, dark, techy and progressive. It’s Fat! Record’s 25th release. Having already seen strong support from the likes of Ali B, Tayo, Freestylers and Dark Globe, I suggest you read on.
The Original Mix begins with flawlessly produced drums fused with raw crisp hi-hats. Approaching the middle of the track the bassline begins to surface, and a zappy analogue-style vocal take precedence. The body of the track is wicked concoction of heavy basslines, heavy droning distorted synth work and minimum vocals used successful. For comparisons sake the track sounds like a more epic version of ‘Boom Blast’ by Freestylers. The breakdown in the middle of the track wouldn’t be out of place in a set by James Zabiela.
Remix duties are courtesy of Merka (Mark Ford). His remix captures that difficult blend of experimentalism, and that all important eye for the dancefloor. The mix begins in deep progressive territory gradually building into a large mid-track breakdown that brings a huge bassline to the surface along with twisted, hardly identifiable analogue elements of the original. A great track for those that love their break beat to sit on the fence leaving genre’s in their dust.
A great 25th release from the fertile crew at Fat! Records. This is very ‘now’ breakbeat, check it out!
