(Soma/Stomp)

Slam’s Bright Light Fading gets the Death In Vegas instrumental rub, Henrik Schwarz dubs the Alex Smoke’s Don’t See The Point, which also gets the extra smokey mix, and Claro Intelectro is enlisted for remix duties on Vector Lovers’ Futures In Plastic.

Slam’s Bright Light Fading was originally released on their Year Zero album last year with Billie Ray Martin on vocal duties. Here Bright Lights Fading is instrumental, minimal ‘80s synth and Casio electro. It’s pretty simple and a touch smaltzy, although the sweet melody is sure to drag a few listeners in. This is movie soundtrack music and doesn’t have enough bass grunt to really get a dance floor rocking. In fact there’s no bass at all, so why it’s called a dub leaves me bewildered?

Schwarz’s rub of Don’t See The Point is more classic Soma sounds with a techie, melodic and moody edge. Keeping the minimal and laid-back tempo, Schwarz strips back the track to focus on the keyboard/piano melody and warm percussion. The track cleverly builds in energy and depth. This is an exclusive so if you’re a fan of the German deep house maestro, this could be worth tracking down as it’s previously unreleased.

Next up is Alex Smoke with his vocal-free version of the same track. It’s minimal and glitchy and is darker than Schwarz’s version. It’s twisted and fat enough to go off open-minded dance floors such as Fabric and Honkytonks. Delays and floaty echoes mixed with the twisted squelchy acid make it a sure fire hit an outdoor sound system also.

Finally, comes Claro’s remix of Vector Lover’s Futures In Plastic. This version was previously only available on Soma’s vinyl Compilation last year. This one takes an electro flavour that will work well when you’re ready to chuck in some breakbeats into your sets or ready to chill out on the couch a la Pork Recordings.
