(Pacha)

In 2000, Pacha, the world’s most exclusive club, released their first ever compilation ‘Perceptions of Pacha’ – a 90min journey through the sounds of Pacha. Five years later and Pacha have now released their much anticipated second compilation. This CD is somewhat different. Not only has Wally Lopez mixed the tunes, he’s also created each one himself. The 12 track CD personifies a night at Pacha – with Lopez’s dark Spanish flavour bridging the gap between the traditional Pacha sound and the more cutting edge sound of Pacha ‘now’ perfectly.

The first CD is a heady mix of sexy deep house. Lopez collaborates with singer SOL and guitarist Chamani on ‘Outside’. Multi-talented Pacha DJ/trumpet player Gordon Edge provides some gorgeous trumpet work on ‘Trompetta’. Other aptly named tunes include ‘Love Time’, ‘Do You Wanna Dance’ and ‘Shake It’. This is sexy house at its best – nothing cheesy, nothing overdone. It’s exotic, spicy and smooth.

Fortunately Pacha doesn’t end the relationship right there. CD Two is the bonus unmixed remix disc. Seven of dance music’s exceptional talents have been asked to remix Lopez’s tunes. Pete Tong, host of Pacha’s flagship Friday night party, spins his remake of ‘Do You Wanna Dance’. Other luminaries to provide their remix skills include Buick Project (Fanciulli & Chatterley), Gordon Edge, and Pacha resident Andy Baxter.

Lopez first went to Pacha as a punter. He declared he was going to be a resident there one day. That one day was less than a year later. With massive tunes like ‘Patricia Never Leaves The House’ to his name, as well as remixes like David Gueretta’s ‘A Little More Love’, it’s clear to see why Lopez has been chosen as Pacha’s frontman. This CD has got me wondering what goes on in the belly of Pacha, the world’s most exclusive club.
