(Om/Stomp)
So you wanna dance? Well get your shoes on, grab a cocktail and get into the groove with one of America’s revered masters of deep house, Miguel Migs, cause he’s back with a tidy little 16-track mix on Stomp Records that will soothe the soul.
Get Salted is the fourth instalment in Om Records’ “House of Om” series, which has previously seen releases from Kaskade, sink-fixin’ DJ Sneak & the Groove Junkies. The label was apparently started back in 2004 especially for Migs, so he explore his creativity and release music that inspires him, alongside the phenomenal work he does as a house producer and label lord. (Oh to be a label lord, a thousand bedroom DJs sigh…)
The 16 tracks selected for this album are designed to reflect Migs’ time as a resident DJ in San Franciso. They must be a cool, laid back bunch indeed, because the mood is languid and the beats subdued and hypnotic for the first couple of tracks. Orange Muse, the King of Tomorrow and the Little Big Band keep things rolling in am inimitable deep house style, and it isn’t until track five, from Shik Stylo, that things perk up just a little. After that, it gets a little more “vocally”, with a delicious appearance from The Realm and V and a sweetly cheesy number from Chuck the Love.
Nice tunes to follow are Remember, from the Mig himself, a happy little Joey Negro remix of The Sunburst Band’s We Will Turn You On, and the utterly wonderful Dust from Recloose. There’s a great, strong finish with For the People by the People too, remixed by Schmoovi.
Essentially, this is a pleasant wander through deep house echelons, full of the usual tootling trumpets, sparing vocals and spellbinding beats mixed up by the hand of a master. While it isn’t really Sunday night music – unless you’re the type who keeps drinking cosmopolitans until the last drifts of the weekend – it is great for a pre-club shimmy around the lounge room or a sure way to shore up those post-party vibes. House fans should definitely give this a spin.
